The perfect children’s vegan cookbook, March, 2009
By Gillian Hall and children
Vegan Magazine

As a vegan and a self confessed cookbook-aholic, I have been looking for the perfect children’s vegan cookbook since my first child was born 8 years ago. I have always been disappointed by the children’s cookbooks available – if a recipe doesn’t contain lots of sugar or dairy then it doesn’t make it into the book. This book, however, is something else entirely. First of all, it is completely vegan. Hooray! No more substituting this, than and the other for a vegan equivalent! Secondly, it is a very healthy collection of recipes – all sugar-free and more or less wheat-free. It seems that the author actually cares about children’s health and the food they are leaning to make for themselves. Thirdly, it has been obviously been written with love and the best intentions and the sale of each copy even supports a charity feeding hungry children in South Africa. The book itself if beautiful, with a photo of each recipe, and with spiral bound. Wipe-clean pages, making it more or less indestructible. Each recipe has a rhyming magic spell to go with it (eg “Healthy, wholesome, healing food, I sprinkle this stew with gratitude”). The recipes are simple, with a short list of ingredients and an even shorter list of instructions (all of which are written with love).
